The music giant will.i.am, known for its long track record as a tech innovator, is stepping into the realm of epidemiological design.
The rapper recently unveiled Xupermask, a high-tech face mask with noise canceling headphones, Bluetooth support, and HEPA filtration system, which comes through a partnership with Honeywell (she).
“I just wanted to create something that made me feel more secure and comfortable while traveling,” will.i.am told Yahoo Finance. When I traveled, people asked me, ‘Where did you get this mask? “At first, I just wanted to make one for myself. Then we decided to start the company with my friends.”
Fans of will.i.am have seen Xupermask before in videos like “Girl Like Me” in which Shakira appears. Will.i.am is tracking the idea until last year at the height of the pandemic as it prepares to return home from the UK
He said, “When you’re in the air for 10 hours, it made me really nervous.” “And so he had my design team create a mask that gives me comfort, and my anxiety by having a filter sitting on top of a circulation fan.”
The materials used to create Xupermask – including silicone face sealant, triple-speed dual fans, and HEPA filters – came from Honeywell.
The Fortune 500 made an early impact in the coronavirus pandemic, as it rapidly ramped up production of its medicine-related products such as personal protective equipment and ventilation filters.
For will.i.iam, the creation of these masks creates a clear path to a new normal, one that has led those in the entertainment industry.
He said, “The music has been very affected, the crew, the vocal stages, the entertainment, the filming, we really innovated around the bubble, like whether it’s the NBA or the soundtrack filming.”
And he continued: “And this practice of testing,” “going out and making sure that I keep people safe, like this mindset. That accountability is very important to enhance safety for others as well as for yourself. Because if you care about other people, others will care about you.”
The mask will sell for $ 299 in two sizes, small / medium or medium / large, and will begin shipping in the US April 8.
