Navi-based flagship graphics cards have been very much anticipated since AMD introduced the first-generation RDNA suite. While the first-generation RDNA gave us a small glimpse of what we could expect from the main show, the lineup never introduced its flagship variant and instead focused on the more mainstream products with finished performance. But after two years, the wait is finally over!
AMD has officially launched its Big Navi graphics card lineup, which is not only the largest Navi GPU we’ve seen yet, but is also based on the 2nd generation RDNA 2 architecture that delivers an impressive jump in performance per watt while introducing a host of new features that put AMD Radeon ack in the category High-end and enthusiastic market.
The AMD RDNA 2 architecture of the Big Navi Radeon RX 6800 and RX 6900 series graphics cards has a lot to offer. In addition to the structural improvements, you can expect hardware-accelerated ray tracing, smart memory access, Infinity Cache, and plenty of deck features that make the suite one of the most competitive enthusiast families AMD has ever put against NVIDIA.
Some of the key features of AMD Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards include:
- AMD Infinity cache – High-performance, latest-level data cache suitable for 4K and 1440p gaming with the highest level of detail enabled. 128MB cache significantly reduces latency and power consumption, providing overall gaming performance that is higher than traditional architecture.
- AMD Clever being able to MEmory Exclusive to systems with AMD Ryzen 5000 Series processors, AMD B550 and X570 motherboards, and Radeon RX 6000 Series graphics cards. It gives AMD Ryzen processors greater access to high-speed GDDR6 graphics memory, which speeds up CPU processing and provides a performance boost of up to 13 percent over the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics card in Forza Horizon 4 at 4K when combined with new Rage overclocking mode One-click playback.
- Built to standard body – With a length of 267mm and 2×8 standard 8-pin power connectors, and designed to work with enthusiast-class 650W-750W power supplies, gamers can easily upgrade their large PCs to compact form factor at no additional cost.

The AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT will be equipped with the Navi 21 XT GPU, which is an abbreviated 72 compute unit, or 4608 SP. The card will also contain 16GB of GDDR6 memory via a 256-bit bus interface, a total bandwidth of 512GB / s, and clock speeds of up to 2015MHz and 2250MHz in the reference specifications. The AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT also has 72 Ray Accelerators dedicated to real-time ray-tracking workloads. The card will have a 300W-based TBP with factory overclocked models pushing it in over 350W and arriving at a later date.
In addition to the standard memory, the Radeon RX 6800 series graphics cards will also have 128MB of Infinity Cache GPU. The cache will help boost the bandwidth for higher performance with a resolution that exceeds 1080p HD. The 128MB Infinity Cache cache boosts the standard 512GB / s bandwidth 3.25 times, delivering an efficient 1.664TB / s bandwidth across all Big Navi GPU graphics cards
In terms of performance, the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT appears to compete with the GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card. The card has a 20W lower overall power and delivers better GPU performance in many AAA titles using the best API (Vulkan / DirectX 12). AMD is also returning Rage-mode which is an automatic overclocking tool within the Radeon suite of software that delivers higher performance along with a nifty new feature known as Smart Access. Gains of up to 13% were shown with the listed features as can be seen below.
So for this review, I’m going to look at the SAPPHIRE Nitro + Radeon RX 6800 XT.. The SAPPHIRE Nitro + Radeon RX 6800 XT is said to have an MSRP of approximately $ 770, which is just over $ 100 on top of the $ 649 MSRP. At this price, you’ll get a 3-fan and factory overclocking cooling solution out of the box.
