Roger Ball of Roger Ball Inc., the agency that ran Ramsey, confirmed the news to Variety. Ramsay became ill recently, but the exact cause of her death is currently unknown.

Although many may know Ramsay for her role as Officer Laverne Hawks in the “Police Academy” films, her career began much earlier. In 1964, she appeared in the movie “Hello, Dolly!” And in the 1970s she established herself as a theatrical, film and television talent. On stage, she acted in “Miss Moffat”, appeared on screen in the variety show “Keep On Truckin” on ABC, and also played a regular role in “Cos”.

But 1984 brought in the role that would mark Ramsey’s career success. With her first “Police Academy,” Ramsay stumbled upon a movie franchise that would see her through the 1980s. She continued to act in films until the sixth episode in 1989, “Police Academy 6: A City Under Siege”.

Ramsay continued to star on screen after her departure from the franchise – which went on to include another movie and two series. She portrayed one-off roles in “Beverly Hills, 90210” and “MacGyver”, while voicing DI Holler in the animated film The Addams Family from 1992 to 1993.

She was survived by her three siblings.
