Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid He committed to presenting his winnings from the NBA All-Star game Sunday in Atlanta to several homeless shelters in Philadelphia, which means $ 100,000 will go to various organizations.
“Many have gone through difficult times during the epidemic,” Ambed said in a statement issued by the team announcing the donation. “I felt it was important to provide more support to individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. I am constantly grateful for all the support that Philadelphia and the fans have given me not only around the All-Star but throughout my years in the league. I will continue to help in any way I can.”
Embiid, who plays for Team Durant in what will be his fourth All Star appearance, is donating to Project HOME, Sunday Breakfast Mission, and Youth Service Inc. His donation will provide 15,000 meals; 4000 essential items of clothing; Care and treatment of 1,000 homeless people receiving COVID-19 vaccines; Supporting more than 30 formerly homeless families; Six-week summer camp funding for more than 50 homeless and at-risk youths; And shelter and basic needs for more than 300 adolescents facing either homelessness or domestic insecurity.
Embiid, who starts on Sunday, is in the midst of the best season of his career, with an average of 30.2 points, 11.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. He had 40 points and 19 rebounds against league leaders Utah Jazz in an additional win on Wednesday.
The Philadelphia ended the first half of the season with the best record in the Eastern Conference, with a better half game than the Brooklyn Nets.
