Lead game designer Joe Walsh explains, “The essential difference between Squads Mode and regular Fall Guys,” is that exclusion doesn’t completely eliminate you from the game. You are only disqualified if Squad is performing poorly on any given round. We’ve all been through this situation where our teammate is knocked out in the first round and they have to sit there and watch you compete. And there’s pressure to be like, “Okay, maybe we should all just step back and go to the main roster and go over again. This allows you to perform as a team.”
Squads mode will establish a scoring system for most of the game’s rounds. In race rounds, players will be scored based on the position at which they cross the finish line, with the teams scoring the fewest points generally excluded after all players have finished. Survival rounds will award players a point for every second they survive, again eliminating teams with less scores.
The Fall Guys developers are super excited about how this changes the playing strategies of some rounds. Walsh gives an example: “If one of your players in your squad gets to mess up Perfect Match and is the first person to drop, you basically know that if some of the other people aren’t eliminated, they are going to take you out, because you are now tied for the rest of the round. Really because after that your team has to start the attack and try to eliminate other people. Because if you can push players from another squad to exit the side, suddenly you will gain more points. So it will be really interesting to see how that develops over time. “
The final rounds are perhaps the most interesting – you will still award the victory to the last standing player, or the first to cross a streak, but that win now goes to an entire team. Obviously, this motivates the teams to work together to bring one player to the end of the round: “So,” Walsh says with a smile, “If the three of you stay versus the other players, and you have a strong presence in Hex-Gone, it might be helpful if the two of you come out to There is sabotage, throwing yourself away from others and appropriating other people to their perdition. “
The team component also means that some of the regular Fall Guys rounds have been converted into tense final rounds. The ball, for example, now pits two teams against each other in the final of a mega soccer match. “Season 4 will actually see three times as many final rounds as any other mode, and that will be really fun,” says Welch. “And I’m really excited to have four rounds versus four Fall Ball deciding the winner of a show. I think it’s going to be a really interesting thing.” It’s something we’ve always wanted to do. “The situation changes Fall Guys’ complexion, but it shouldn’t change its economy much. When we talked, Mediatonic didn’t have a final decision on how to reward the mode to the winners, but since it’s theoretically easier to win the game, Walsh says the rewards should be “a little less” than the main game – using the Crown Fragment system.
The only thing that will definitely be easier is the most difficult achievements and titles in the Fall Guys. Infallible prompts you to win five full episodes of Fall Guys in a row. And yes, the Squads’ wins will count in that – “In theory, we made it easy for people to quadruple that trophy,” Walsh says. “I said in an interview six months ago, I was like, ‘We’ll make it easier with time, for the players to get this trophy. “And this is the future that I’ve been talking about. So we’re finally there.”
Season 4 of Fall Guys features a sci-fi theme and begins on Monday, March 22nd. It will also introduce a fashion among us with mysterious and unique features.
