In 10 seasons as coach with the Eagles, Staley was promoted to full-back coach (in 2013) and eventually added the duties of assistant coach (in 2018).

Staley is one of three Campbell’s crew assistants who have no ties to Campbell as coach or player and was not affiliated with Matt Patricia’s squad, but played for Campbell’s mentor, Sean Payton, with the Eagles.
Lowry said that Staley is “a very special person to me” and suggested that coming to Detroit would help Staley become a head coach for the NFL.

“It’ll help him,” said Laurie, “and I just want the best for him.” “I think he will be an excellent captain anywhere in the future. I just want to share this love for Duchi because he’s so special.”
