Lawyer Mark Saint told CNN: “There was a court deal … the agreement is 15 years imprisonment.” He said Muscat would also face financial sanctions.
Sant pointed out that he did not represent the other defendants accused of the murder, brothers Alfred and George DiGiorgio, but he told CNN that they are continuing to plead their innocence.
CNN contacted the Malta Criminal Court of Appeal for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
Caruana Galizia, 53, was a prominent anti-corruption journalist from Malta who was killed in a car bomb explosion near her home in 2017. Her family says she was “assassinated” for her work uncovering alleged corruption in the Maltese government.
