Carmichael Restaurant asks for answers from DoorDash after it looks like the delivery person is stealing money

Stephen Tran never expected someone to steal his hard-earned business advice, especially someone who works on his own to get a tip. But he said it happened at noon Thursday at BurgerIM in Carmichael, and in the CCTV video shared with KCRA 3, a DoorDash delivery woman in a blue jacket is shown waiting to receive a food order. She waits for the cashier to leave, then reaches for the tip jar in the register, picks up the cash. “Every dollar when it comes to tips matters,” said Tran. “In a family business or any small restaurant, you get the minimum wage.” Tran has contacted DoorDash to report the woman. Customer service representatives write that DoorDash can block the washing machine from taking orders from the restaurant. Another email stated that Tran’s Restaurant has “the ability to rate all Dasher’s interactions.” Representatives of the billion-dollar company did not share their comments about any disciplinary action, if any, they would take against their Dasher for the theft. “If your employee is stealing from us, that won’t stop them from stealing someone else’s food or somewhere else,” Tran said. “You have to hold your employees accountable for what they do.” Tran told us that the bacha returned to the restaurant later that day, but said the woman in the video was not her. The security camera video shows that the woman who appeared in the restaurant later that afternoon was wearing the same shirt. Tran added, “There is video evidence that she was wearing the same outfit. She just took off the jacket.” A customer service representative said by phone that the issue would be escalated to headquarters. Another representative wrote in an email that they had sent our observations to “relevant teams”.

Stephen Tran never expected someone to steal his hard-earned business advice, especially someone who works on his own to get a tip. But he said it happened at noon Thursday at the BurgerIM in Carmichael.

In the KCRA 3 Joint Security Camera video, a DoorDash Delivery woman is shown wearing a blue jacket waiting for a food order to be received. She waits to leave the cashier, then reaches the jar of tip in the register, and picks up the cash.

“Every dollar when it comes to tips, counts,” Tran said. “In a family business or any small restaurant, you get the minimum wage.”

Tran has arrived at DoorDash to report the woman. Customer service representatives write that DoorDash can block the washing machine from taking orders from the restaurant. Another email stated that Tran’s Restaurant has “the ability to rate all Dasher’s interactions.”

Representatives of the billion-dollar company did not share their comments on any disciplinary action, if any, they would take against their Dasher for stealing it.

“If your employee is stealing from us, it won’t stop him from stealing someone else’s food or somewhere else,” Tran said. “You have to make your employees accountable for what they do.”

Tran told us that the Dacher returned to the restaurant later that day, but said the woman in the video was not her. The security camera video shows that the woman who appeared in the restaurant that afternoon was wearing the same shirt.

“There is photographic evidence that she is wearing the same outfit,” Tran added. “She just took off the jacket.”
