Lauderhill, Florida. Authorities are investigating a fatal car accident Monday morning in Lauderhill.
The incident was reported around 1:30 a.m. on Northwest 16th Street and North State Road 7.
Lauderhill Police, Lieutenant Michael Santiago, said officers arrived at the scene to find two vehicles that were badly damaged.
He said investigators believed that the BMW involved in the collision was speeding north on State Route 7 while the Mercedes-Benz was heading south before attempting to turn left to go east on northwest 16th Street.
Santiago said that when the Mercedes was turning left, the cars collided, causing the BMW to collide at a nearby bus stop.
The BMW driver was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where he died.
Santiago said the Mercedes driver was not injured and was cooperating with the investigation.
Santiago said Northern State Route 7 and Northwest Street 16 remain closed while investigators are treating the scene. Drivers are required to take Northwest 31st Avenue as an alternate road for now.
